Hello! My name is Micaela Boyd, I was born on the 11th of April in Boston, Massachusetts. I have one older brother named Eric, he was born with cerebral palsy- but he's the happiest, kindest person I know. My mother is Native-American&Irish and my father is Portuguese. Growing up in such a diverse household I was taught Portuguese at a young age by my grandmother and Spanish by my neighbors so by the time I was 10 I was trilingual- not to mention the ASL(American Sign Language) I learned as a child to make it easier to communicate with my brother. My mother lived most of her life in California and my brother was born there so as a child that was my second home.

Since I was young I've always had a passionate love for visual arts- weather it be drawing or painting. At the age of 10 I started taking classes at Mass College of art on saturdays to strengthen my drawing skills- and to this day I still have the same passion for art. Another strong interest of mine is language- I love how intricate and different each language is. My overall goal is to become a Spanish teacher to elementary school kids- or even disabled kids. If the opportunity came up I would also love to teach English in a South American country- always wanting to explore new places!

Starting my college career I really would like to get my associates degree in Spanish and then further on to get my Bachelors in English. Most of the people in my family barely got through high school and out of the millions of aunts and uncles and cousins I have maybe only 5 of them did any type of college. I want to prove to myself and to my family that we can succeed and we can get good careers in life and not just settle for minimum wage. High school was not my cup of tea and I struggled really hard to get through it but now I can finally pursue the goals I want to obtain and start my road to becoming a foreign language teacher :)
Michaela,
ReplyDeleteGreat first post. Very interesting and very well-written! You have a knack for languages, and that is a very good skill.
I also hail from a Portuguese family, as I grew up in New Bedford.
I think that you have some very cool goals. I went abroad to teach English in Italy after college, so I highly recommend any work experience abroad. It's a learning experience and it looks great on a resume.
But mostly, it's a learning experience.
Welcome to the course. You have a very nicely designed blog. Great pictures and very cool drawing.
Keep up the effort, and you will do great in this class.
